Psalms 120 to 134 are fifteen beautiful psalms sometimes called the Songs of Ascent or Pilgrim Songs.  Scholars have suggested that worshippers sung these songs as they ascended the road to Jerusalem.  Others have suggested that the Levites sung them as they ascended the fifteen steps to the Temple.  I was stirred some years ago now to write short settings of these psalms.  For the most  part, the texts are characterised by brevity and I felt challenged to take a minimalist approach allowing myself one verse only (with the luxury of being able to repeat individual words!).  Hopefully, the simplicity of these Songs for the Road will allow worshippers to pick them up and make them their own after a single hearing.
