About

A little background from Barry ...

I have been playing and composing different styles of music for more years than I care to remember!  As a self-taught guitarist I grew up in the rock ‘n’ roll era and spent many hours with my record player figuring out what my guitar heroes were playing. Gigging in Sixties rock bands was followed by studying music at college and, throughout the years that followed, I composed  stage musicals, choral items, music for schoolchildren and worship songs.  My choral works for children have been performed at the Royal Festival Hall, The Fairfield Halls and Westminster Cathedral.

My wife, Colleen, and I moved to Suffolk in 2001 and these have been fruitful years. My compositions, many co-written with Denis O’Gorman, have been published by Kevin Mayhew Publishers.  Details of all these works can be found by clicking the links on the Kevin Mayhew page.  For many years I was MD of the Dayspring Community Choir and conducting the choir was a particular joy.  In addition to raising sizable donations to support East of England charities, the choir demonstrated my heartfelt belief that music-making is for everyone - ‘A community for singing - singing for a community’ .

Our daughter, Lucy Bunce, is a professional harpist and singer and, along with our son, Matthew, there have been many opportunities to accompany Lucy’s stage performances.  Music-making with your family is so precious!

Over the years, I have been blessed to play in a number of worship bands and have led worship in a variety of settings from small prayer groups to large gatherings involving many local churches. Although I didn’t become a Christian until later in life, curiously, I was writing Christian songs long before that time!  But that is another story …
